The evening will include a screening of the short documentary film
The Art of the Journey: The Ben Jones Story and discussion with the artist, followed by a reception.

Ben Jones is considered one of the most significant African-American artists of this century.

His work derives from his interest in social justice, the spiritual, the environment, and humanity.

Jordan Casteel is an assistant professor in the Department of Arts, Culture, and Media at Rutgers University-Newark. Her solo exhibit, Returning the Gaze, is on view at the Denver Art Museum through August 2019.

New Jersey-born Artist, Activist, Professor Ben Jones has used his art to bring awareness to the plight of people throughout the world, with a strong concentration on the struggles of the people of Cuba. Born in 1940 in the City of Paterson, NJ, Ben’s consciousness began to develop EARLY as a Social Activist. His art began to express the conditions and social climate of his time. Over the years, his artwork began to broaden, bringing awareness to environmental disasters as in the BP Oil Spill and also to the revolutionary struggles of the people of Cuba. This documentary is an educational tool for many of our youth, as well as adults to use as an example of what it means to represent something greater than oneself.
Professor Ben Jones will speaking about the Cuba and the social injustice
we are all currently experiencing today in the United States.
